Button Mushroom

Agaricus bisporus

The world's favourite mushroom

The story

Button cultivation began around 17th-century Paris, where growers discovered it thriving in the cool limestone caves used for storing crops — 'champignon de Paris' is still its French name. In India it powers the organised mushroom industry, grown on pasteurised compost in climate-controlled rooms.
